What would you do if everything shut off all at once? Your power, cell service, landline phone service, everything. It's a question no privileged person ever even thinks about, but it's the question Rice answers in this chilling apocalyptic thriller.
I really enjoyed the continuously uneasy feeling all the way through the book juxtaposed with sweet family moments and Anishinaabe stories and lessons interspersed throughout. There were a few moments that reminded me a bit of "Leave the World Behind" by Rumaan Alam where the narration dragged on a bit too long with seemingly innocuous moments, but overall, the writing was great. I highly recommend this to anyone, especially atmospheric readers as this is the perfect winter read!
