Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King
4.5

4.5 stars rounding up to 5 for GoodReads. I think this is the perfect King book for those that do not like horror. This is probably the most contemporary novel I have read by King without it venturing into any sort of heavy supernatural element or disturbing gore-filled scene by the end. There are still disturbing moments in this novel, but they are all rooted in real life, which I think is the brilliance of this novel. The setup of a woman telling her life story to the police and then discovering how she ended up where she ended up was so good. I can recognize (as can Dolores herself) that it is a bit long-winded for the actual tale told, but I think the atmosphere of this one and the tale itself were really good. This is a King I would recommend to anyone who wants to familiarize themselves with his work whether or not you love horror.
