Definitely Better Now by Ava Robinson

4.0

I ended up really liking this. It didn’t start out that way. When I first picked it up, I found it hard to get into, hard to relate to, and frankly, I found the HG stuff off putting. It wasn’t until I was nearly 10 chapters in that I began to like Emma, the main character, and to understand her more. I still think the praying chants weren’t necessary, but I liked the direction Emma eventually took.

Emma’s love interest, Ben, was my favorite. I enjoyed his personality and storyline. I hated that he was bombarded with other male characters who were jerks.

The book was extremely triggering for me in a grief aspect. Please be aware that substance abuse, memory loss, and poor choices play a huge part of the story. It deals with serious subject matter. It’s not a light rom-com. And, there are other subjects that brought me to tears.
