Incredible world building! The characters and settings were beautifully written. While I did feel at times the story stretched, I did appreciate the fact that Darkfever was setting the scene for the series, which I absolutely intend to read in full.

MacKayla is a reluctant heroine and her development is slow, but that is to be expected. Not only does she have to come to terms with her sister’s death, which occurred in a completely different country from her own, but she also has to deal with the fact that she has powers that allow her to see a world that very few knew existed.

Jericho Barrons is complex and intoxicating, mentoring MacKayla one minute, then using her the next. I appreciate the air of mystery surrounding his character, and admit it is the main reason I will be reading on. A dark and powerful start to a series I look forward to completing.
