Keturah and Lord Death
by Martine Leavitt
While lost in the forest, Keturah encounters Lord Death but delays the inevitable by telling him a love story. Lord Death gives her a reprieve, but warns that she must find and marry her true love or else he will come for her the next day. This is a gorgeous, moving fairy tale, with just the right combination of humor and sadness, success and failure. I also appreciated Leavitt's conception of death as that which makes life worth living.
