The Chaos of Standing Still by Jessica Brody

emotional medium-paced

3.5

I purchased this book from a discount store based on the cover and title alone. I planned to read it around New Years Eve because I knew it was about a girl who gets trapped in an airport when trying to travel home on New Years Eve. Yes, I did spend 3 hours on an airplane on New Years Eve reading a book about a girl trapped in an airport on New Years Eve.

Anyway, Ryn is travelling home after spending Christmas with her father and gets trapped in the Denver Airport while they experience the worst snow storm they have had in decades. She need to be home by New Years Day as it is the anniversary of a tragedy that she does not want to relive in an airport full of people. She meets a cute boy and other odd assortments of people while trapped for 24 hours. Hijinx and growing ensues! I have read some YA books with similar topics where I say, this is one all teens should read. This one does not quite make that list, but is more than just boy-meets-girl fluff.

Overall the book was pretty good. The writing was good and the plot was good. There was nothing absolutely spectacular about it, but I also didn't roll my eyes every time I picked the book up. It was honestly a nice read over Christmas break: not too heavy, not too light. A solid 3.5 stars.
