Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Ibram X. Kendi, Jason Reynolds

challenging dark emotional informative inspiring reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

I picked up this book thinking it may work for my 9th-grade non-fiction unit, and this is a perfect fit. I have not read the adult version of this book, but Jason Reynolds did a phenomenal job using language that younger learners will be able to understand and engage with. Although it is a lot of historical knowledge (but not a history book!), I never felt myself getting bored or wanting to put it down.

The bits of humor and font changes make it even more engaging for young readers, and I really think my students will love this read. As an adult woman, I, too, learned much more about the history of racism in this country, especially in regards to some pop culture I had no idea originated in hate.

If you have not yet picked this one up, please do! It is such important, crucial, and relevant information that we all need to learn.
