This is an enchanting story that follows the life of Addie LaRue, who escapes an unwanted life and marriage by making a deal with a possibly more unwanted god. You explore her life, both the good and the bad as she lives a life of being forgotten and invisible. However, she meets a boy one day who somehow remembers her and suddenly her world is twisted in ways she never expected.

The story of Addie LaRue is so beautifully written and honestly just enchanting to read. I adored how the speech changed depending on the time period we were exploring to reflect the time period she was in. It's a subtle detail but I feel a really impactful one.

For a character who is supposed to be forgotten, I know I am going to have a very hard time forgetting Addie LaRue. She was absolutely delightful to follow and read about. You watch her character grow a lot as she navigates her new existence. Over the years, you see how time and experience has changed her.

I also admit I did enjoy the character of Luc. He seems the typical dark, mysterious man but I feel that drew me to like him more. As much as I dislike his actions, the dance between him and Addie really shows his charm which I couldn't help but like just a little bit.

I really did enjoy the characters in this book, even the smaller characters such as Fred who was only mentioned near the beginning of the story. Schwab did an amazing job building these characters and I have absolutely fallen in love with them.

This story has a theme that really concentrates on how you will leave your mark behind. Addie, who is unable to leave a mark in her wake, discovers how ideas can also be considered leaving a mark. The influence and inspiration she leaves behind on the people she meets is how she chooses to leave her mark as she is unable to leave a mark in anyone's memory or even just a physical mark in the world.

I found this book so incredibly charming and fascinating to read. Though the ending was rather ambiguous, as though it was set up for a sequel, Schwab had stated that this is a standalone book. However, I do remain hopeful as I would love to see a story unfold about Luc and Addie.
