The Brilliant Death by A.R. Capetta

3.0

First impressions were as follows; The spine was an unique color compared to others on the shelf and that drew my attention. The synopsis was intriguing. I saw that Alison Goodman, author of Eon and Eona, provided a blurb which heightened my curiosity, for I adore that Duology. I also realized that The Brillaint Death is the second novel I have read from this author. The first being a disappointment: Once & Future (a co-written gender bent King Arthur retelling series with STUNNING covers).

My final impressions were as follows; The books starts out in a manner that is intriguing, easy to read, and with steady pacing. Teo, or Teodora, is inquisitive and protective over their family. Teo adores their family and delights in learning from their father.

Content Guide: nudity, sensuality, abuse

The Billiant Death has a good balance between being character driven and plot driven. The characters learned more about their pasts and their selves. The plot was steady, revealing secrets, alliances, and betrayals. The fantasy elements, magic system, and world building in The Brilliant Death is soft and understated. There are aspects of the story that could be considered dark.

Overall; The Brilliant Death was okay. I liked the ending.
