The Mothers by Brit Bennett

3.0

This was frustrating because I loved The Vanishing Half so much. It really bothered me how this book handled abortion. Nadia stands by her choice to get the surgery, but so much of the narrative is dedicated to her guilt and feelings of betrayal for “killing Baby.” A lot of time is spent humanizing the fetus and shaming the protagonist for what should be her unquestioned right, especially as a minor. Felt kinda pissed and grossed out by the end.
