He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan
DID NOT FINISH: 16%

i physically could not finish this book and i found it so bad that i‘m back on my written review bs ✍️

for once, after the really well done themes of yearning and desire had been more or less resolved in the first book, there was nothing of interest to keep the story alive and going.

in the first book i could already hardly empathise and get to know the characters (maybe due to how the pov‘s were split up in a way that somehow just didn’t work the way it was supposedly to) and in the second book it wasn’t any better. the characters felt so mischaracterised by what they said being often the total opposite of what they did.

another thing that bugged me immensely about this book was how every single character in this book was somehow in their #sadgirl era and everyone was suddenly a masochist and just the amount of times i had to endure how much they liked Pain. and i get it but also at the same time is there nothing else that could be explored in this book

tldr; unfortunately i realised that this duology is a perfect example of how the first part (no matter how underwhelming) will often be better than the sequel
