Enjoyed this a lot! A good, complicated thriller that was hard to put down. I really liked the characters, especially the female ones. Lisbeth, Berger, even Cecelia. I wouldn't call this a feminist book and I agree with some of the criticisms of its gender problems, but on the other hand this is a mainstream thriller that recognises that sexual violence against women in modern society is rife and largely unpunished, that men who rape women get away with it because society's attitudes and views of women permit it. That was refreshing, and in my opinion sets Larsson apart from people like James Patterson who obviously just get their rocks off writing about women being raped.

Biggest complaint: there was SO MUCH DETAIL, and in parts it was so unnecessary. Did we really need two or three pages explaining guardianship laws in Sweden?? Could've been edited more thoroughly. It was also bizarre that the book kicks off with the pressed flowers scene, and then Blomkvist pays, like.... ZERO attention to the fact that someone has been sending Vanger pressed flowers for decades, like that has no significance on the investigation even though it pretty obviously indicates that Harriet was alive the whole time. That was clumsy. I would have scrapped that part.

Anyway, now I'm just nitpicking. I read a book of over 500 pages in two days, that's no small feat for me.
