Secret Invasion by Brian Michael Bendis
4.0

A great story. Some of the tie-ins are a little confusing (for example: how does Captain America go from Fallen Son (07) to ending up on the Skrull ship that lands in the Savage Land? Particularly since he isn't deemed alive until CA: Reborn (09) which comes after Secret Invasion...) and I'm not sure about Bobbi vs skrull!Bobbi - was it skrull!Bobbi who had the miscarriage and real!Bobbi had been in Skrull hands for years or was skrull!Bobbi able to access Bobbi's memories? - but generally, for all the shapeshifting and questions of "who was skrull when?" the plot runs pretty smoothly. I also think its highly unfair of Thor and Steve to blame Tony for the skrull's invasion, but I generally think Steve's reaction to Tony is unfair in modern comics. I really enjoyed the inclusion of the Young Avengers and even the criminals fighting against the skrulls.

Finally, I think what intrigues me the most was the skrulls reasoning for the invasion. It made me think of BSG's cylons, fighting under the name of God - motivated by their impending doom with no empire truly left (I'm assuming the Krees are winning the war?), but phrasing it as means to salvation for humanity and honestly believing it (reflected by the Queen's recitation of "He loves me" to the very end). It puts a fascinating spin on the invasion.

It certainly leaves tendrils of intrigue for the future - where is Danielle and Luke's child (and does she ever have a name?), what will happen to all these groups who just fought side-by-side despite the SHRA? Also, it grates at me Osbourne gets to live in Tony's (Avengers) tower. Back off, slime. If you don't know what comes after (being published in 2008), it's a great ending.

So, yeah. A lot of feels for me. Overall, good execution, great art.
