Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

Wtf was this?

The synopsis sounded incredible, and the reviews were so good. I wanted to LOVE this book, and thought that it would be one of my favorite reads of the year.

It's... a lot. The main character is a 14 year old girl who talks multiple times about the romantic love and physical attraction she has for her uncle, and honestly, I should have stopped reading the first time it made me uncomfortable. I kept reading thinking it would get better or explained in a different way. It didn't. The author just doubles down... and then compares it to homosexual love? No. No thank you.

The character of Toby is creepy and acts like a child predator. None of the family want anything to do with him, and he shows up at June's house when she is alone, disguised as a mailman. Later, he tells her not to tell her parents about what's going on. He randomly shows up outside of her school and drives her to an arcade. He gives her cigarettes and alcohol. I just kept feeling like this man was a danger to children (and we're supposed to like him?!)

I wanted this book to be about two people helping each other through grief and this is not what it was.

I need a shower to wash this book off of me.
