The Dragon's Eye by Kaza Kingsley

I enjoyed this book at times, but it was difficult to follow. The line between the magical world and the "loser" world was not very clear. For example- springball. Erec started talking like he knew all about it, but he grew up in the "loser" world. I think things could have been a bit more clear. The mother, June, seemed selfish, especially since she convinces her son to commit multiple crimes to try and free her.

Some people have said this is similar to Harry Potter. I can see that in some aspects. The plot reminded me a bit of Goblet of Fire, mixed with Chamber of Secrets. I was not surprised at who the culprit was at the end, and I was also not surprised to find that a certain "shady character" was very Snape-like and was helping them all along.

The ending did seem a bit rushed, and it also leaves a lot of unanswered questions. I didn't love the book, but I'm willing to give the sequel a try. The magical world in the book is very unique, so I'm interested in learning more about it.
