Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder is the third book in the Little House series. It takes place a year or two after Little House in the Big Woods. Overall, I found this book to be a fun and enjoyable read. For this review, I am using the Rambler Rating system developed by 2 to Ramble.
Emotional Impact: 4.25
I thought the emotional impact was really great. I did feel all the emotions of joy when Laura and Mary got their Christmas presents, the fear of the unknown prairie life, and the interest in the native american, which was demonstrated through the eyes of a child.
Thought Provoking: 4.50
The themes of self-reliance were spectacular. The showing of having to leave everything behind to start a new life was also really well done.
Characters: 5.00
The characters floored me. They were described in a way that had more depth to them than you would think.
Plot: 5.00
The plot was fun and interesting. I enjoyed going through and seeing how they got on and adapted to the prairie.
Worldbuilding: 5.00
I found it to be very historically accurate.
Prose: 4.75
I found Wilder's prose to be fun and engaging.
Overall Rating: 4.75 for a book that nearly floored me.
