Queen of Air and Darkness
by Cassandra Clare
it was really good! i really enjoy cassies relationships, and i did just really love this book. but! it was kind of an unsatisfactory ending to one of my favourite trilogies.
the final battle with annabel (who i thought had been really well built up as one of the most compelling villians in ya) and the truth of the parabatai curse both seemed a little underwhelming to me and although i did really love the parts of the story set in thule, they seemed quite convoluted. also, it seemed to me that quite a lot of this book was actually just set up for the wicked powers, which obviously won’t be out until 2022 (or later) e.g. kit and ty’s relationship, the necromancy, the epilogue, the claves exile.
and whilst i do understand the want to have all the books set in the world connected, it seemed just a bit overdone and i do prefer it when the conclusion of a series actually wraps up the series rather than leaving more questions.
to conclude, i did love this book, especially with all the representation in it and the dynamics between characters, however i didn’t give it a five star rating because i didn’t feel like it was on the same level as the first two installments and frankly, it is just too big. it’s unwieldy and difficult to travel with/take anywhere and i can only imagine how heavy it would be in hardback. it should have been about 250 pages shorter, around a similar size to los and lm which are both still very large, especially for young adult novels
