I feel like I’m reading through pudding. The pudding wants to be good, but it’s bland and just gumming up the works. Maybe there’s an interesting story here, but I’m not willing to deal with the pudding.
Opening the book on a plantation with skaa/slaves didn’t really help.
ETA: I decided to finish the book. I got into it about halfway through. Overall, it’s mid. I found myself irritated by the magic system and wanted to know more about the culture and the city and the crew.
