The Knockout Queen by Rufi Thorpe

4.0

This dark coming-of-age story is narrated by Michael, an awkward gay teen whose grown up poor and in a home riddled with domestic violence. When he moves in with his aunt, he forms an unlikely friendship with Bunny, a wealthy volleyball player with an alcoholic father.

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. I ultimately landed on four stars because, although the story was great and unique, it wasn’t always super believable.

Michael was a great narrator and I low key want him to be my book character bff.
