Poison by Bridget Zinn
2.0

Poison is a cute and fun fantasy set in a uniquely whimsical fantasy world. It’s quick paced, fluffy, and there really isn’t anything bad per say it just wasn’t for me.

Kyra is a pretty typical heroine, she is sixteen, pretty, and is a potions master. The thing is, she seems pretty young to be considered a “master” of anything. I liked Fred, the love interest, well enough but he was a bit boring, just really normal. Rosie the pig DOSEN’T ACTUALLY MATTER AT ALL. I’m angry about that, if you offer me a pig give the pig a plot.

I’m not the biggest fan of the writing, the characters spoke in a way that was almost completely like our world with too many “cools” and “awesomes”. The characters sounded so immature! The build up took a long time, the author hides so much for so long, but just two or three chapters to wrap up EVERYTHING. However, there was a well written plot twist.

I thought the world was interesting, but I don’t particularly care for especially whimsical settings. The potions were cool but I didn’t feel like the witches and crime lords had a place.

I can’t help but feel that if the author had more time with this book it could have been something really special. I was expecting a bit more from this but it wasn’t awful, I just didn’t care for it.
