Honestly, this is more of a 3 ⭐️ with a bonus ⭐️ given for the gorgeous MinaLima edition. This French fairytale from the 1700s absolutely drew me in at the beginning. I was enchanted with the beautiful language and the story itself. It is creative and engaging. The enchantment seemed to wear off about 2/3’s of the way through when it seemed to be dragging on and on. I would have cut out chapter 8 in its entirety as we are introduced to characters and then given extensive backstories for them. I didn’t care. I wanted the focus to remain on Beauty, her family and the Beast. That part of the book is wonderful.
