Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

5.0

This book was simultaneously devastating and fascinating, and I could not tear my eyes away. I was maybe a quarter of the way through when I realized that this book would haunt me for years after I finished it, and now that I’ve read all of it, I was right. This book is for all the girls who have experienced sexual assault and were made to question “was it actually assault?” and to believe it was their own fault. I don’t understand why so many other reviews hated this book or were let down by there not being any “revenge” plot — revenge isn’t the right word here, it’s justice. Ani got justice for what happened to her, and through that we can see that she starts to heal, which is the most important part. It’s not realistic for every woman who’s been sexually assaulted to exact her revenge on her assaulter. Not every woman is Gone Girl. TifAni getting the justice she deserved for so long is the best ending, leaving her horrible fiancé and realizing that she deserves so much more than what she’s allowed herself is the better ending. I loved this book immensely, forever a ghost in my bookshelf.
