this was a depressing, heavy book. it was just ok, it seemed to get very long towards the end. in the last few pages the author recounts the past characters and i was unable to remember most of them without going back in the book. i don't think this book had much of a climax. it seems like a jumble of stories as astrid is moved around to different foster homes. i was not really able to relate to astrid much either since our experiences in adolescence were completely different.
