At first I liked this book and its premise. It follows a figure skater named Anastasia Allen who dreams of going to the Olympics. She’s training at her university’s rink for the most important competition of the season when suddenly she has to share skate time with the enemy, the hockey team. I’ve never read anything in the sports romance genre, and this book didn’t leave the greatest impression. I loved the cast of characters though. Especially Henry. I hope he gets a book of his own. If he does I will be reading it. I also thought the two leads were well developed and had their own problems that they confronted throughout the course of the novel. Their romance was nice, but by the time I was nearing the end of the book their dynamic felt monotonous to read about. They talk, they have sex, repeat. Personally, I don’t think the book needed to be 400+ pages. My issue didn’t lie within the characters or plot I think those were the strongest points of the book. My issue was the writing style. There are points in the book where a character faces a problem or they’re describing another character and it just feels like they’re spelling out everything for the reader instead of letting them come to their own conclusions. It was a lot of telling me who this person is and why they behave the way they do. I want to be shown that and read it. Especially near the end of the book it feels like the reader is being spoon fed these characters’ motivations which I wasn’t a fan of. I liked this book it was okay. 2.5 stars from me.
