Persuasion by Jane Austen

Persuasion sets up a phenomenal internal debate for the reader: is persuading morally or ethically right? Furthermore, is being persuaded a sign of a weak-mind?
We see the repercussions of Lady Russell’s persuasion in Anne’s life. I imagine neither could have foreseen the 8 years of misery for Anne when she agreed to not marry Wentworth. But was it right to persuade Anne? And was Anne right to be persuaded? My favorite sentence of the entire book seems to answer the persuasion question: “it is perhaps, one of those cases, which advice is good or bad only as the event decides.” We do see the impact it had on Anne as she states that she would never give such advice.
The book was engaging, fun, and incredibly frustrating to read. I detested all of the Elliots (minus Anne), and I do hate that Walter would benefit from the marriage of Anne and Wentworth. Do be prepared to be frustrated as they take up so much of the book, but it was fun to hate on them. While this is a second chance book-it is so so much more than that. A message to seek advice but to trust yourself more.
