Falling Down by Anne Mercier
3.0

You’ll either love this book or hate it. If you are expecting this to be true to life, please move on. I don’t think it was meant to be. This book has a bit of a personality problem. At times it can be sweet and flirty but then there are times it can be raunchy, bordering on vulgar. There is a lot of cussing in this book. If this turns you off, don’t read it. It was borderline too much for me, but I got over my dislike. I found Lucy to be charmingly awkward at times and take charge at others. Jesse Kingston was just plain hot, a bad boy rocker to the core. I don’t find it farfetched that an actress would have kickass voice (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato?).

Some issues I had, the slut-shaming. This is something we need to start moving away from as a society. It just perpetuates the victim blaming that goes on when something bad happens. Also the lack of true response to her trauma. There should have been a greater consequence to it, unless she had therapy but this wasn’t mentioned in the book. There definitely needs to be more character development. I’ve read the other books, so I know that you find out more later but some development in the first book is needed to keep readers reading.

Overall, I like it as an escape read, a mind palate cleanser. I like books like this after I’ve read something that challenges me.
