Review:
I have reached the end of The Mentalist Series and book three did not disappoint. However, it leaves me questions a longing for a continuation.
What I enjoyed in keeper versus the other books was this one offered us a dual perspective. The story was told from Gemma and Russ' point of view. Which I found to be well written and intriguing to have the story played out from alternating persons. Now if you read the series you'll become very familiar with the pair. But you'll only of Russ from Gemma's POV. Throughout all the previous works your left wanting more of Russ, I mean after all he was thrown into a whole new mix of life.
The intertwinement of Averters, Empaths and Keepers was stitch perfectly to a tee. Watching the world of the mentalist and the illusions in which groups thought of each other was a powerful movement that ended it all.
I wasn't sure how this would series would wrap up and While it was very climatic, it was also somewhat demure. What I had anticipated was not what had occurred. Although I didn't get the ending I had hoped for, I found the one that Udogu provided fit perfectly into place. Especially once you get the chance to learn more about the different groups and the history of them.
The Keepers did seem to up the romance slightly, but it was over the top and it didn't detract from the storyline. In fact, it adds the perfect flare to be mixed in with the very action pack, on the move story line.
One thing I very much enjoyed that Kenechi was able to capture was the shifting emotions I had for characters. It was a lot of second guessing my own feeling about them and pondering as too what the right way was to go. Who should Gemma side with and who is the good guy.
Kenenchi Udogu meticulously rounded this series up with a very impactful ending. But also left me wondering is this really the end for Gemma and Russ' story?
