Jack by R.P. Howley & Daniel Willcocks is about Charli, a woman who despises the taste and smell of pumpkins who has been talked into a trip to a small town's annual pumpkin harvest by her twin brother and her fiancé. What was supposed to be a quiet weekend soon turns into a nightmare as Charli begins to realize that there's something sinister about the town itself and the upcoming harvest ritual.

This one is for the Goosebumps girlies, for sure. It's pulpy (pun intended) and fun, with a side of fairly harrowing gore and (to my surprise and delight) some nauseating pumpkin-based body horror. It's a quick read, as well, and perfect to get into a Halloween mood no matter the time of year you're reading it in. Charli is a classic final girl, and you feel for her as things begin to escalate in ways that she knows no one else would believe. If you're interested in a book with a Goosebumps for grown ups vibe and some pretty gnarly gore, check out Jack!
