American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

I read this book over the whole of August, few chapters here and there. Once I started reading it I knew it was a book I didn’t want to fly through. It is definitely up there with one of the best books I’ve read. The detail and description throughout the whole book was incredible. It was so in depth I felt like I had the film of it in my head as I was reading. Some books can be too much when they’re like that but this wasn’t, it was incredible.
.
I absolutely loved Lydia’s character, how much of a strong woman she was, protecting her son Luca throughout so many difficult/heartbreaking situations. What started off as a happy life in Acapulco with her family, she had a love of books... this changed and her life falls apart because of a drugs cartel. She was forced to flee the country with her son to illegally cross to the US, facing so many traumas along the way, not being able to trust anyone.
.
Rebeca and Soledad, two sisters who Lydia and Luca came across along their journey. I felt so upset about the troubles they went through, things that happened during their journey. It was so nice that Lydia protected them as they were her own and made sure they were safe

Such an incredible and moving read. The characters will definitely stay with me. I would definitely recommend this book!
