The Exiled Queen by Cinda Williams Chima
4.0

I was initially really worried about continuing this series. I enjoyed the first book (mainly the end) but I also couldn’t shake the feeling that I was telling myself I liked it more than I really did.

The first half of this book was not my favourite, and I felt like it would end up being 3 stars. It was full of traveling which I found rather boring, and there were more chapters focusing on Han compared to ones about Raisa, and considering she’s my favourite I was a little disappointed.

Having said that, the second half was great!! The environment at the school was fun and really entertaining, honestly any fantasy book with a school involved has me intrigued. I got more Raisa content, plus Han started to grow on me. Win win!!

I still love the relationship Raisa and Amon have together. The tension and angst was a lot and I had some seriously frustrating moments while reading, but I’m happy with the direction their relationship is going, even if it’s messy. It’s still realistic.

And because of her relationship with Amon, there was also Hallie and Talia. I thought they were a great addition. They added a little extra something to certain conversations and scenes, and I loved that Raisa was able to build true and unbiased friendships with these women.

Then we have Raisa and Han - and don’t even get me STARTED. I love them??? Like so much??? They compliment each other so well and Raisa got Han to smile, like genuinely and happily smile and I lost my shit. I ship them with my whole heart and if they don’t find happiness together I will start a riot, mark my words!

The cliffhanger at the end is mildly driving me insane but it’s the perfect lead up for the third book. I’m really happy that I’m finally getting into this series, there was definitely a lot of buildup and development going on with the first book and early portions of the second, but I think it was necessary and it will all be worth it in the end!
