At first I thought reading this 5 months postpartum might be an issue (turns out it wasn't). Motherhood is HARD, there is a lot that no one talks about so it was interesting to read it in the first few chapters and feel solidarity.
The book itself is 3 fold recounting generations of mother/daughter abuse/neglect.
Is it shocking? Yes. Is it disturbing? Yes.
Although it examines the behavioral issues that can expand from one generation to the next....it also threw in some other issues and it all became a bit disjointed for me.
It didn't flow well and I found myself unsatisfied with the ending. There was no climax per se....
And for me everything was a bit vague, a lot of legwork for the reader to reflect on and I think that threw me off for a book marked thriller-ish.
Great writing, storyline just didn't work out for me.
