Pretty Things by Janelle Brown

3.5

I love a good con artist thriller and I am trying to read more backlist books I own, so I was excited to dive in! The audiobook was really good. Both narrators were engaging and it made listening a great experience! Nina is a grifter who is attempting to pull the biggest con of her life on heiress Vanessa with the help of her grifter boyfriend Lachlan. Most of this book takes place in Lake Tahoe at Vanessa family estate, which as a side note is a place that I really want to visit some day.

I like how this book goes back and forth with both Nina's and Vanessa's pasts and presents, really setting the stage for the con. However, they both share a similar present timeline, so there are a few chapters that are the same story just told from two perspectives, which did get a little repetitive after a certain point. It was interesting to read both women's POVs and how they perceived the same situations though. There were a few twists that were pretty obvious, I thought, but even though I knew where the story was going, I was still generally entertained throughout! Overall, this was a good con artist thriller and I plot overall!!
