Carsick: John Waters Hitchhikes Across America by John Waters

4.0

A few notes:

1. Yes, the first two-thirds of the book are fiction: Waters begins by imagining how his trip could go, the best possible version and the worst possible version. Waters doesn't try to pretend any of the fictional stuff really happened, but I guess just the idea of having fiction and nonfiction between the covers of the same book ruffles some people's feathers.

2. This is a John Waters book. If you don't enjoy his aesthetic and/or sense of humor, then you should steer clear. On the other hand, if you're already a fan, I highly recommend checking it out.

3. John Waters is a freaking national treasure, and the fact that he came so close to where I live and I had no idea made me want to sob!
