Atmosphere
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
“Happiness is so hard to come by. I don’t understand why anyone would begrudge anyone else for managing to find some of it.”
This might be my new favorite TJR book. The mix of setting, time period, and cast of characters was impeccable. Another perfect depiction of what it’s like to be queer in a world where it is looked down upon. I thought it was beautiful to showcase a character that didn’t realize her own queerness until she was well into adulthood, which I’m sure was the case for many people in the early 80s. That mixed with both the misogyny and acceptance of female astronauts during that time period made my heart full. This book made me feel happy, sad, joyful, afraid, anxious, and so much more. Taylor Jenkins Reid, the woman you are.
