The September House by Carissa Orlando

5.0

I enjoyed how different this book seemed from the beginning and the underlying theme that you find out as the book goes on. The idea of a woman going ‘eh, I can live with it’ to the idea of ghosts felt outlandish but at the same time relatable to me. Although if I had that horror in my basement I’d be packing my bags immediately.
I also loved the gradual thought that maybe this narrator wasn’t as reliable as you thought, only to have it come full circle that somehow she had suffered similarly or enough that this was doable for her. The author does make a very obvious parallel to the abuse she suffered in her relationship and the horrors of the house but I think that it’s a fun thing to not have to dive too in depth about on such a quick read.
