Sweet Dandelion
by Micalea Smeltzer
this book almost made me cry…ALMOST.
even though i felt like the fmc had more chemistry with the friend, i could see how having a relationship with her school counselor fit better with the book.
i won’t lie there were a couple things that pissed me off. one of them being the 80% breakup act for ‘her own good’ and the fact we never know if he was celibate during the separation. i won’t wine and complain but yes that did knock it down a star. and yes i was also rooting for her to fall in love with the friend lol.
they only had sex twice before the separation and the last time (the night before the hero left his job, sold his apartment and left her) he kept on saying “i’m sorry” which reminded me a lot of one scene from the Off Balance series by Lucia Franco except Kova said it in russian. it still broke my heart though because you could feel it coming. at least there wasn’t any OW drama though.
safety:
virgin heroine (she has had a few boyfriends in the past which made me believe she was not a virgin but she is. the mmc is her first and only)
the hero is not a virgin and doesn’t appear to be a manwhore (no mention of his sexual past we just know he had condoms in his bedroom)
no OW drama and no past hookups showing up (thank god)
OM drama (if you want to call it that) she has a guy bsf that likes her but she turned him down, they were still great friends afterwards. they never kissed or had sex although she thought about kissing him once.
no others during separation: i know the heroine was not with anyone else and didn’t date anyone else but not sure about the hero though i would assume he was celibate. the heroine, while traveling europe with her guy bsf, sleeps in the same bed as him every night because he stops her nightmares.
quotes:
“Because I’m not about to fuck you like some horny teenage boy that can’t control himself. You mean more to me than that.”
“The best things in life are meant to be savored. Treasured.”
“The thoughts I have about you break so many fucking rules. If I’m going to hell for this, I want to do it thoroughly. I want to take my time. I want to explore every crevice of your body with my tongue and pluck your thoughts like a guitar string. I want to know the ins and outs of what you love and why you love it. I want to know the most sensitive parts of your body, what makes you moan my name and beg for more. I’m a selfish bastard, Dandelion Meadows, and I want every fucking part of you.”
and of course i have to include one quote from the guy bsf that really broke my heart because you could tell how much he loved her and how much it hurt him to see her in love with someone who broke her heart. this quote was when the guy bsf read the letter that the hero wrote the heroine because she threw it away and he was telling her to read it.
“You were never going to choose me, not when you have someone that loves you like that.”
