Forbidden Tales by Luke Kennith Xavier
2.0

I am very grateful to have won this book in a giveaway, however I was not a huge fan of the reading experience. As other reviewers have said multiple times, this very much feels like a first draft. I think there are some good ideas and concept in there, the execution was just not quite good enough for me to enjoy it.

The Place Where the Bad Kids Go (1.5/5) was way too short for anything to happen. There wasn't even enough time to build up any kind of tension about "the place where the bad kids go".

From the Journal of Dr. J.T. Martian (2/5) had an interesting premise, and I think if it had been developed further it could have been a good story. The writing was almost comically bad in places, so at least I got some entertainment out of it that way.

River of Sorrows (2.5/5) was the best of the bunch. It was long enough that tension could build, but the writing and characters still didn't feel overly well written. There was a lot of telling and very little showing, and there was also a few misogynistic comments outside of the character who was (hopefully) supposed to hold harmful opinions.

Overall I think there was real potential here, but all of the stories needed a lot more work before publication.
