A Demon Bound
by Debra Dunbar
3.5 stars. This was a quick read and a good start to a new series that I'll definitely continue. Sam is a minor demon--an imp, actually--who has been living as a human the last 40 years. She tries to stay under the radar and avoid being killed by angels by keeping her use of magic to a bare minimum. But she gets the attention of the local werewolf clan when she uses her magic to heal her seriously injured dog. And soon, she is recruited by the werewolves to find a rogue angel who is killing the werewolves for apparently no reason.
Sam soon draws the attention of another angel, Gregory, the biggest and baddest angel with a knack for demon-killing. He is also hunting the rogue angel but, instead of outright killing Sam, he decides to hold off and let her help him track the angel. And so they all join together, albeit unwillingly.
I liked that while Sam is a demon, she isn't totally evil. On one hand, she saves her dog. But on the other hand, she only lives here because she possessed a human some 40 years ago. She's sex-crazed (no, she's not a succubus), and loves to walk around naked, trying to entice her next-door neighbor, Wyatt, for a romp. Yes, she likes to sometimes do evil things, but she gradually grows into a less-evil demon, if there ever was one. She's also smart and has a lot of business savvy, allowing her to build up quite a nice nest egg. But her lack of awareness about the existence of werewolves in a world where demons and vampires exist was the only thing that seemed "off" to me. She seemed too worldly to have been ignorant of their existence.
Once they start tracking down the rogue angel, things sped along. Altogether, this was a fun and fast-paced romp.
NOTE:This book had quite a few grammatical mistakes (mostly with improper punctuation). I tried to look past this because I was enjoying the plot; however, I adjusted my rating down by half a star as a result.
