Pride and Persuasion by Wrenn Montgomery

3.0

Series: Inspired #2

Synopsis:
Pride and Persuasion is a second-chance romance of Elliot James and Baker Williams. Baker ended their relationship eight years ago when they were in their late teens. While he was from a poor neighbourhood, the James’ were rich as sin. Now, Baker Williams is a name synonymous with turning bad investments into great ones. But, when one of his publishing companies is about to be threatened with a lawsuit, he has to get their retainer onboard.

In comes Elliot James, a partner in the same law firm that Williams Publishing had a contract with. She has barely recovered from the harrowing incident last year when she’s face-to-face with her mistake of eight years before. She has succeeded in creating a life for herself well beyond her dreams, but when old love comes calling, how will they stop the personal and professional lines from blurring?

Review:
The enemy to lovers and the hate to love are two of my favourite tropes and this was a good one. There is nothing as such special about the story, still, it is a sweet and sassy tale.

Narrated in the first-person from both his and her perspectives, this made for an amusing read with really short chapters. And I think I like short chapters! And it is the first time I am saying that when Baker and Elliot come face-to-face after so many years, it is a hot encounter. You will know it when you read it.

Some strong, hurtful and bitter words were exchanged when they last parted and it made this joining of theirs more bittersweet. The fiery fights between them will keep you entertained as much as they will frustrate you.
Sometimes we hide things to protect ourselves, and sometimes we hide things to protect others.

From much before to the recent past, they both have been hiding things from the other. And what she initially hid from him together with the boxing gloves in the teaser, that has to be the sweetest gesture ever! I won’t give any spoilers but that is the best thing about this story. The best. There is some mystery as well, surrounding a leaked manuscript.
As much as I hate Baker, I hate losing even more.

Baker and Elliot aren’t in a relationship at first but it bothered me that he didn’t remain exclusive. In romances, that is a sore point for me. Otherwise, the story was a good one with the supporting characters as wonderful as the main ones. And we also get to see the character progression of Raven and Emmett from [b:Nevermore|52170121|Nevermore|Wrenn Montgomery|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1569938220l/52170121._SX50_SY75_.jpg|73419457] (Book One of the Inspired series).

Book Two of the Inspired series, Elliot and Baker’s love is reminiscent of the verbal sparring of Pride and Prejudice while them coming together at the end is remindful of Persuasion.

Thank you to InkSlinger PR for an e-ARC of the book.
