Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin

5.0

I finally bought this book from Shakespeare and Company and, as an American-founded bookshop in Paris, it felt like the perfect home for this book. Baldwin has a beautiful writing style and this novel is a classic for a reason. I could study these pages over and over. As a queer piece of literature, this one is essential reading. There is so much depth to how identity is explored throughout this book. I would love to see this performed as a play as there was so much emotion seeping through. I enjoyed the pace and length of the book, shorter than most but the perfect length and structure. In need of a reread for my quote collection.
