Forge
by Laurie Halse Anderson
The sequel to [a:Laurie Halse Anderson|10003|Laurie Halse Anderson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1563830499p2/10003.jpg]'s critically acclaimed novel, [b:Chains|3002300|Chains (Seeds of America, #1)|Laurie Halse Anderson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348415444l/3002300._SY75_.jpg|3032794], turns to the young enslaved boy, Curzon, and where his path takes him after his timely rescue at the end of the last book. Anderson does not rest on her laurels as she covers the events of the American Revolution from the Battle of Saratoga through the infamous, horrid winter at Valley Forge.
This was just amazing. Though couched in words appropriate for her audience, Anderson continues to be unflinching in her depictions of both the American slavery system and the terrible trials of the Continental Army. The horrors of both stand on nearly every page, and yet she crafts a narrative that will keep a person enthralled from start to finished. Brilliant storytelling.
