Sadie by Courtney Summers
3.0

✨first of all, don’t read this book. LISTEN to this book. the audiobook is a work of art and completely transforms the reading experience. the podcast element really shines through and makes you feel like you’re in the middle of a true crime series.

✨the plot is uncomfortable and sometimes vague when you’re on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happened. it’s also a sad story about a dead sister and the one left behind who is determined to get her revenge

✨now, here is where some spoilers might start to creep through. the alternating timelines sometimes made me want to rip my hair out. while I think the building of suspense was important, I think there was a point where it was obvious what was happening and the fact that we still were getting crumbs became a little repetitive.

✨I also want to say that this story had an ambiguous ending that I definitely saw coming but i liked the way that it was handled in the podcast as like a “if you’re listening…” type of way to bridge the two pain POVs we get together. I thought that was nice and impactful. I will also choose to believe that Sadie is out in LA somewhere living life.

✨overall, if I hadn’t listened to the audiobook I think that my rating would be more like a 3. Like this book is a good book, the plot was fine, the characters were dynamic, but the audiobook listening experience is what really brings this rating up.
