Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale by John Steptoe

Absolutely one of the most breathtaking books I've ever read!  John Steptoe's stunning illustrations grace his beautiful re-telling of a Xhosan morality folktale.  Centering upon two very different sisters: Nyasha who is selfish and cruel; and Manyara who tends to her garden and has respect for all living things--both must undergo a series of trials.  Kindness and perseverance triumphs in the end.
