I loved this story. It's so short, but it hit.
Emezi brought these characters to life and they felt real. They breathe.
Jam is so interesting and complex. Her relationships with her parents, her friend Redemption, and Pet made the plot worth the wait.
The actual story takes place over a few days, I was surprised how close and natural the friendship with Pet felt in such a timeframe.
The narrative explores the different facets of how humans deal with harm and how to address it when it's identified, for those impacted and the perpetrator.
It was compelling and didn't seem to be prosthelytizing. Just a character study of how different people will react to the same situation.
