I liked the sections written from the POV of Lyudmila the most, but the other sections written by Eleanor Roosevelt and the marksman were super grating. They felt really heavy handed and the ER sections in particular stood out for just providing historical context, not at all like a real person wrote them.
Overall, it was fine. Some cliches/too perfect moments but not an overwhelming amount. Honestly, the afterword and the author’s notes about the book being published just after the Russian invasion of Ukraine were maybe the most interesting to me.
