An Appeal to the World by Dalai Lama XIV

1.0

I read a book by the Dalai Lama last year and enjoyed it. On my Open University History and Politics course I recently had to briefly study the reputation of the Dalai Lama and it has given me more of an interest in the Tibetan Buddhists, particularly the Dalai Lama's beliefs. He is such an intriguing figure to me and this book gives a litany of his thoughts on how to improve the world.

I am not a religious person but this book isn't about religion as such. It is mostly about ethics and human rights. Sadly, I found that this book was extremely disappointing. I feel that the cover and title is misleading in that this book actually consists of two interviews between journalists and the Dalai Lama where they happen to talk about current world issues rather than a book specifically written by him for the purpose implied.

Overall I would not recommend this book. Although the Dalai Lama has some interesting ideas about achieving world peace, the book itself feels like a lazy compilation of two interviews that are available elsewhere.
