The world building overall in this book is great, even if sometimes some of the descriptions got simplistic. Beyond that, though, this is marketed as a middle grade novel and we're told the main character is twelve-years-old. I found that more difficult to believe than the science fiction elements of the story. This feels more like a young adult novel, which makes sense as that's what the author usually writes.
Sovereign was interesting enough to hold my attention, but not enough that it's a standout book. I received this for free a few years ago as part of an Audible subscription, but I don't think I would have sought it out otherwise. While the science fiction was good, the memory lapses and fake flashbacks took too much time for too little reward. It was a fine book, but nothing special.
