Across Dark Seas
by Clare Sager
4.5
To be fair, the 4.5 stars probably reflects more on my expectations than on Across Dark Seas as a whole, as I actually read Beneath Black Sails first and expected much more of Evered than if I had done the sensible thing and read these books in the correct order!
This book introduces us to Lady Avice Ferrers, a young woman from a wealthy, aristocratic family, who chafes against the rules and boredom of genteel society. Lady Avice wants adventure, and what better way into an adventure than eloping with the man she loves, rather than being forced to marry a man she despised as a child?
Clare throws in some pirates, promise of steamy scenes to follow, and a little fae-magic in this prequel novella for the Beneath Black Sails series, which sets up perfectly for the next book. But be warned, Across Dark Seas does not contain a HEA...for that you'll have to keep reading the series.
If you're looking to start a series that will rope you in, take you on swashbuckling high-seas adventures, and give you all the romance and magic you want, plus a few twists and turns along the way, look no further!
