Going Solo by Zoe Sugg
2.0

I don't know if it's my age difference from the first book, or what, but here, I think Zoella is trying too hard.

She's trying too hard to fit in conversations such as 'I have more to look forward in life than boy drama', but by actually saying that, which makes it seem off. The conversations are forced, the dialogues are unrealistic, and Penny, although she's growing up, there's still a distinct childishness to her character, who's in high school? (I'm not sure what sixth form means). Something was off.
Plus it felt like she was trying too hard to wrap it all up into a happy ending.

But Zoella, being Zoella knew exactly how to describe colours and clothes, and the weather. I felt myself imagining exactly what she described there and was in awe of that.

Overall, I felt like this was her first book (even though it's her third)- that she has a lot of growing up as a writer to do. I remember reading about Zoella and how old she is but because of her target audience she has to dumb herself down. This book definitely seemed like an example of that. Plus, like I said, it was preachy. So it simply didn't work much for me.
