phallucee 's review for:
Duke of Midnight
by Elizabeth Hoyt
I frickin' loved the first half of the book and how Artemis ensnared the Duke's attention, riled him up, and gained his reluctant admiration so effortlessly but by the mid-point after they'd had sex, my enjoyment plummeted and I'm finding it hard to push through. I don't like the mistress trope and hate when the H wants the h really badly but is unwilling to make sacrifices to have her - obviously I know it's a HEA and he must change his mind at some point but meh, it doesn't mean I like him anymore. He says such cute and romantic things in the beginning about how a Goddess shouldn't cry, she shouldn't be in the position she's in (basically a slave to Penelope's every whim) and yet a Goddess apparently deserves no better than to be his side-chick. He puts her on a pedestal and doesn't even call her by her real name during sex. I'll try to plod through it but my enthusiasm and love of this book took a nosedive.
